September randomisms

Blogging is becoming a monthly journal nowadays. One of these days I'll get a really deep blogpost going but that will not be tonight.

Here are some happenings in September.

Family Home Evening:
Let your light so shine (thanks Lori T for the idea!)
We read and talked about Matthew 5:16 and then we let the kids play with these little glow sticks (thanks Gma Lori!). They liked them so much and wanted them to keep glowing so the "light wouldn't die" that they slept with them. Sadly they do die and go in the trash. I felt sort of like I was at a concert that I've never been to.

First 2 with flash. Jocelyn's is under her chin:

I canned salsa for the first time. I used my uncle Stan's recipe. Yum-o! It only took 3 hours to cut while Tyler and Sammy went to the BYU football game and 2 more hours to cook while I watched the Relief Society rebroadcast. Sheesh! But totally worth it!

Here are the lovely jalapenos grown from our very own garden!

Samuel did not have a birthday party this year. I've decided to let them have one every other year (if that, and if I can restrain myself from having them every year, there are so many fun ideas I want to try!). Because I want his 8th year to be a more "spiritual" year to focus on his baptism this year was the first off year. So instead I let him have his favorite friend and cousin, Creigh, come over with his brother for pizza, cake a movie. They had a blast! And Samuel loved the wii game they gave him!

Here is the cake. Do not look too closely or judge! I am NOT a cake decorator. But I do like to come up with fun ideas. Oh, and I let the boys "help" ie add too many lego men and sharks. Samuel requested a shark cake where a shark was attacking a guy on a surfboard. I thought that was a little too graphic so I suggested a guy in a boat with sharks around him. That is what this is.

Oh, this is his "special day" plate and toy and the banner of course.

  1. Hannah, I think the cake looks awesome! I'm pretty sure my kids will get the confetti cake that comes in a box with matching frosting and it will just be in a 9 x 13 pan. :) Way to go on canning salsa! You should buy a Vidalia chopper to help it go faster. I LOVE mine. I think it's an awesome idea to only do a party every other year.
