Opinion's please

Here I am again desiring your opinions.

I have something in mind to list in my shop (hopefully soon). It was a completely original idea until I did some Internet searching and realized I was not the first to come up with it. Darn. But that is pretty hard to do these days anyway, coming up with something completely unique and creative that is not inspired or based on someone else's creation. But that is a subject for another blog.

I am making a countdown chain for Samuel's birthday because the persistent asking, "when is my birthday?" or "How many days until my birthday?" is getting old. My question for you is, how many days do you typically make your paper chains? Christmas, for example, 12 seems to make sense, for the 12 days of Christmas. But what about Halloween? Birthday's? etc....
So, how many links long are your kid countdown chains?

  1. Ha, I remember doing an 180 day countdown in first grade to count down the days of the school year. I think generally anything more than a month is a bit extreme.. but 12 days is probably the minimum I'd do.

  2. As long as they need it to be. When we were moving, we had one that was strewn around the rental house with chain. It helped me visualize how much I had to get done in so many days. You're crafty enough that you could create a stiff paper/fabric one with velcro that would be reusable.

  3. cute idea. Would you have birthday themes and holiday themes and (like the picture you posted) due date count downs? I like it! I'd agree that 12 is probably your minimum, and probably no more than a month. 20 is a nice even number.

  4. I concur with all that was said. Especially the fabric countdown chains. :)

  5. That's funny... I was just thinking about making a countdown chain for Dakota's birthday. (Although being the crafty person I am, I was planning on using cheap construction paper, not a cute theme like I'm sure you'll do).

  6. Hey, man, if your kids can't stop asking--then it's time to make the chain and tell them to keep track. That's my opinion.

  7. I like Megan's idea about making them out of fabric. Is that what you are going to do? I would also say that 15-30 would be a good number. Or, maybe make them in sets of 10, and then people can buy how many sets they want to equal how many chains they need. Or, maybe sets of 5, 10, and 20.

  8. I don't have kids, but I am a fan of paper chains. I even made one for myself when I was waiting for Kristen to come home from her mission. I say the longer the better. I would just say as soon as your kid starts asking when Christmas or their birthday is, just make a chain. Even if it's 70 days away.
