starting at square 1

I wanted to post about how to potty train your child. But as Samuel has only successfully pooped in the potty one out of 5 or so weeks he's been trained and peed pretty well, we realized that our (my) yelling was doing the trick and that I am not ready to post how to do it bcse, obviously, I don't know how. Prayer is necessary and perhaps some intervention. So, we (I should say, Tyler) took Samuel to the pediatrician today because he hasn't had a BM in 5 days. Diagnosis: We're basically starting over with the potty training thing. Pumping him with fluids, myralax, high in fiber fruits which he refuses to eat...maybe this will force him to like pears and peaches...we'll see....he only eats apples and juice and raisins. That is the extent of his fruit consumption. We got new potty treats, and we should not punish him for having accidents anywhere (that was my fault....). So we get to try this again! Yay (waving a flag as if I were in Monty Python). Hope it will work this time. I hope it works this time, please, oh, please. We hope our prayers will work :)

  3. Sorry it's been so rough for you! I have to remind myself to not get mad about the accidents, too, because it always seems to set us back a bit.
Good luck! Stick with it, and just remember that he WILL be potty trained, because everyone gets it someday!

  5. I was a frustrated Mom many times. Sometimes I would just get on my knees and cry to Heavenly Father until I was spent. Having Jim Jr and then handicapped Todd so close together was very hard. Todd had continual undiagnosed seizure activity until he was three and uncontrollable screaming episodes. At 29 he is still not toilet regulated. More to the point. I've spent probably the last six out of seven years serving in the Nursery at church and have loved every minute of it. These precious little ones are like sponges when it comes to words of encouragement. Help them feel happy and successful every opportunity you can. When things go wrong, there will always be a success waiting to happen so don't ever dwell on failures but do celebrate successes.

  6. I am so sorry. That totally sucks. But at least you got the WORD from the doc. That will help you to be more strict because you know it should at least work. Good luck.

  7. I'd wish you luck, but I don't believe in potty training. If I could wear diapers today, I would. Alas, my mother never gave me that choice. You could change things!! You could be the one!!

Then again, changing your own diapers might be uncomfortable. And you'd have to go into the bathroom to do that anyway. . . so the whole convenience factor just goes out the window.

Not to mention, you can't look very chic in dockers if you're wearing a diaper.

    Best of luck to you!!
