BYU MOA

Christ healing the sick at Bethesda, 1883, Carl Bloch

Tyler and I took the kids to the BYU MOA (Museum of Art) to see the Carl Bloch exhibit. Let me say first that you should come see this exhibit. Make time to see it. It can't hurt your budget because it's free! Not only is it an important cultural experience, it's great exposure for your children to masterful art with a subject that is sure to enhance their (and your) spiritual well being. I assume you recognize this painting? This Danish artist has created a beautiful repertoire to behold.

The Daughter of Jairus, 1863

This was Tyler and Samuel's favorite. Samuel couldn't really pin point why it was his favorite. I thought it was very interesting. The focus is on the daughter, who is already dead. Christ is merely in the background allowing her mother to mourn a bit before he heals this girl.

Christ in Gethsemane, 1879

This was one of my favorites. I liked the image of Christ being enveloped with love, represented by the angel who visited him in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Before you go, you must register for tickets in advance here. There is only one month left of the exhibit. And it will only get more difficult to get tickets in the last month.
Then, read this article from BYU Magazine to learn a little about his art.
Last, spend an hour (or more or less) at the exhibit and if you have more time mosey on downstairs to the other free exhibits.

And of course, take some photos of your crazy kids because you can't inside the museum!
