My little boy

My 6 year old has a major crush. Yes, Samuel. This isn't the first one this year either. He liked a little girl named Cadence until he went to her birthday party in February and she didn't give him the time of day. He thought the party was boring and I am guessing it wasn't because of his buddies that were there. Poor kid.

So the next week he announced he like Mia, one of the twins, who may not share the same feelings as Samuel. It's so cute. You know those tender (and often rare) moments right before bedtime? That's when Samuel begins to spill the beans.

So tonight before putting him to bed he started telling me, out of the blue, "Mom, Mia said I have a crush on her." Pause. Shakes his head and very matter of fact says, "I don't know what that means." Melt my heart! Sadly, for him, she didn't say that she had a crush on him, but I didn't feel the need to burst his bubble.

Then he told me about how he doesn't know what to do on the playground. I can see his concern is so sincere. She's really good on the monkey bars and proceeded to tell and show me her tricks. He wants to play with her on the playground. So he thought of a plan. He needs to go to the school playground and practice so he can play on the monkey bars with her. How sweet is that?

Where do kids learn these things? Crush? Already? Samuel learned what cooties were a while ago but this girl must have older siblings that tell them these things. Or.....it could have been the note he gave her today. I forgot to take a picture of it but it said, "Mia, I love you, (something something), Samuel."

Poor kid. He's smitten.

Oh, and PS--no need to egg him on about kissing, love notes, etc...I think it just confuses him more.
