HELP?!?!?!?

Potty training.....The first day I thought I was a pro. I was so prideful. Samuel had only 1 accident and even pooped in the potty! All in the first day! So then I must have needed some humility because Samuel has only gone down hill since then. Each day (since Tuesday) he has progressively had one more accident per day!!!!!!!!!!! And he hasn't productively pooped. What are we doing wrong? We feel like such failures! or that Samuel has some learning disorder!!!

We tried the potty training in a day. Every 15 minutes sit on the potty, rewarded with a sticker and a potty treat. He even taught bear how to do it properly. Sometimes he runs to the bathroom on his own accord and successfully pee's. Other times he will pee after we prod him to. And other times we ask him to sit on the potty and nothing comes out. And most of the time we ask him if he has to go and he doesn't and then ususally 15 minutes later he has an accident.

So are we not being consistent? We are being so much more positive then we were last time. And 75% of the time he knows when he has to go! He feels it coming and usually goes by himself! So why does he still go in his pants? And he can sleep 3 hours during his nap w/no accidents.......Help!!!!!!!

UPDATE:
After some prayer, patience, persistence, and personal advice I am glad to say that I believe Samuel has finally captured the accomplishment of wearing big boy pants! He has only 1 or 2 minor accidents since I posted this! We're on the right path!

  3. Hannah - my advice is to do your "potty training in a day" for three days straight. I did it with all my kids and by the end of three days they are totally trained. Find three days you can stay home and use a kitchen timer. Say "Beep beep - time to pee pee" Day 1: every 15 minutes - 30 minutes by the end of the day. Day 2: start at 30 minutes - up to 1 hour by the end of the day. Day 3: start at 1 hour, up to 1.5 - 2 hours by the end of the day and they should even tell you by now when they need to go. The trick is to not let them out of the bathroom until they have peed. It is a battle of wills and trust me there will be some tears involved, but it is just three days and so worth it. Don't give up! Call me if you have questions!! It works! Good luck!

Hannah- I saw this while scrolling through some Elmo games with Ben and thought of you and Sammi--it is too funny. Maybe you should watch with him. :)

  6. Hannah I so feel your pain! I think you are doing a great job...boys just rather play than pee! I know it is hard but just keep at it. For Ethan we had to give him a treat every time he tried...so 1 jelly bean or M&M are nice for this and for Ethan he really liked this video on potty training it was so old school (it is called It's potty time by Learning through Entertainment,Inc...it was but out by Duke University) another thing is pray....pray to be inspired with ideas especially for Sammy! You can do it and so can Samuel!

  8. If you want to run a 5k, my only advice is to practice running! I hate running but I made myself do it like three times a week and I just worked up to it. I started out on the treadmill, running, then walking, then running, and back and forth. Then one day I ran 2.5 miles on the Provo trail, another day almost 3 miles, and then another day 3 miles. And by the time the race came, I could do it without stopping! You can do it Hannah!

  9. Yippee! He doesn't have a learning disability. It is hard for every kid. I am glad that he is finally getting the hang of it. We threw Trey a birthday party when he finally pooped in the potty... candles, cake, and all of the my in-laws senior citizen neighbors were the guests. You just have to make a huge celebration every time he is successful. It gets better, but it is torture.

  10. Way to go Sammie (and Hannah). Now you can give me all your wisdom with potty training.

  11. I just keep hearing that boys are harder than girls... which is not a comfort to me with my three boys, but at least your daughter is coming up, right? This probably isn't the time to tell you that my 7-year-old has had a relapse and now regularly messes in his underwear, huh? :)
